You should be proud of our students, as the first week of school is starting smoothly. Our in-person classes, which also have the remote option on demand, are running well and our students are very happy to be back in school. Some remote parents have let me know they will be returning to in-school classes faster than anticipated. I want to thank you, our parents, students and staff for working so well to make this experience pleasant.
Our first parent lunch is tonight Friday, September 4, 2020 at 12:30pm at Lekka. The restaurant is located at 17606 Preston Road, Dallas. This is south of The George Bush Turnpike, on the east side of Preston, just south of Frankford Road. We are having regular monthly parent meetings, including parent council members. You can socialize, get to know the other parents and enhance our community understanding along with your child’s future. And in this case, there is a free lunch!
Dr. Meena is starting a Science Club, so be on the look-out for her announcements and Student Council is underway. Ask your student about them.
After school PE is starting, with the first quarter for Fencing, and the second quarter we are planning Swimming. Like last year, we will partner with the Fencing Institute of Texas coached by Olympic Athlete and Coach Michael D’Asaro. Students may take this for high school credit. After their first course, students may continue on the teams for additional credit under our internship-practicum program, which the Rodgers and Lo families have been doing. More information is available at fenceintexas.org and the email for Coach D’Asaro is firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Fencing class is Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, starting September 15th until November 19th. Sign-ups are due by Friday September 11th. Transportation arrangements will be made after we have the student roster.
We have regular college prep meetings throughout the year. As announced last week, at noon today, ALL STUDENTS GRADUATING THIS YEAR, AND STARTING COLLEGE IN THE FALL OF 2021, HAVE A MANDITORY MEETING AT THE SCHOOL. All who are graduating within the next two years are welcome. Parents are welcome to attend, but not required.
