Dear Yorktown Community,
We celebrated Memorial Day to remember that freedom, progress, opportunity, and the safety of our way of life are an honor afforded to us by the sacrifice of so many others. We celebrated, as our protectors would want, by enjoying the fruits of their labor and remembering them. And, as always, the wish for our children is to progress and prosper, doing what they love.
Our Annual Formal Dinner and graduation will be this month, Mon., June 29, 2020. We will open with our graduation ceremony, which we also plan to live stream. Dinner and speeches will follow the ceremony. Students may also continue their school traditions following dinner. Those who are at-risk or are concerned about COVID-19 may watch remotely by live stream. Families may also opt to attend just the graduation ceremony. Details will be in your invitation. We are pleased that our community has this opportunity to experience our graduates’ accomplishments and we look forward to going back to a significant educational facility next year. The student council is planning next year’s event this summer.
Yolinda Cuba has been hired as our new administrator. She comes to us from the private Schechter School of Manhattan in New York City were she was an administrator for five years. Her family is moving to Plano for a more family-friendly place to raise kids. As she said “ I loved my private school, but the COVID-19 was that last straw for raising kids in NYC.”
The school year is has ended and grades will be sent out later this week. We are starting a major curriculum review and development program this summer, which will include some of the leading personalized learning experts in America. We have also received additional funding for the school from third party sources, and I am optimistic for
If you wish to raise your grades in a class, finish an incomplete class, or move ahead in a subject (so you can have your Golden Year) or even remediate in a weak area, then summer school is for you! Please sign up for summer school now, so we can schedule the teachers. See attached summer school flyer.
I would also like to say again, our community’s common denominator is the parents of Yorktown students. Our parents are intelligent, and they love their children. Our parents are successful. Our parents understand that good work habits and the personal skills the cohort system develops, are important for success. Our parents understand the long term, high-value results of Yorktown’s education, because many have experienced these benefits from quality education in their lives. Our parents understand that Yorktown Education develops their children to “Do What You Love.”
We are moving forward to improve your school experiences for next year.
