“As an Educator” featuring Marissa Tyro
Marissa Tyro started teaching at Yorktown Education in Fall 2012 and teaches middle and high school biology, chemistry, physics, health, AP Psychology, and 3D Printing. Ms. Tyro’s teaching philosophy incorporates the tools students need to synthesize information. Ms. Tyro’s in-depth knowledge of the sciences gives her the ability to make technical concepts accessible to children/teens and equip students to apply what they’ve learned in the real world.
Ms. Tyro began her journey into the science world as she watched her father work within the electrical engineering sector. Her desire to help others combined with her love of science contributed to her desire to pursue teaching as a career.
Ms. Tyro started her educational career in K-12 schools after she earned her teaching certification from Northern Arizona University. While teaching in secondary schools, she expanded her curriculum vitae by working with SMU students in chemistry labs. Her experience teaching at a college level gives her the foundation necessary to prepare middle and high schools students for future rigorous standards. Ms. Tyro provides her current Yorktown students with the skills they need to succeed in college courses and beyond.
Ms. Tyro enjoys working at Yorktown due to the small classroom sizes that allow for one-on-one instruction with the intricate science curriculum. She also enjoys having the time to teach in a non-lecture style rather than deal with disciplinary issues.
Ms. Tyro is looking forward to the 2014-2015 school year at Yorktown Education.
