“As an Educator” featuring Kristen Robel
“I make the kids feel like they can succeed while enforcing they are on the right track… I want the overall feeling that they can just do it!”
Originally from Maryland, Kristen Robel started teaching at age 22 after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Kristen discovered her passion in teaching, as education was highly valued in her family. Kristen’s parents created a balance in her education by providing her with time for extracurricular activities, such as ballet and sports. This instilled a value for pursuing personal passions that reflects one of Yorktown Education’s core philosophies: “Do What You Love.”
While teaching, Kristen completed her Masters of Science in Science Education through Maryland University. Her constant desire to learn, combined with her values and educational background, allows her to also focus on ways to solve educational concerns in and out of the classroom. Mrs. Robel wants to ensure the quiet or sometimes-shy student can ask questions. Kristen incorporates various ways to make the students feel confident that what they are doing is on the right track. Mrs. Robel frequently holds individual conferences with parents to address any areas of need the students may have. For the students, Mrs. Robel creates a checklist that provides the steps needed to help students ask thoughtful questions, find the right sources, and evaluate the choices presented.
Mrs. Robel is not only an elementary teacher at Yorktown, but she also embodies the essence of the friendly community in and out of school. She hopes to be known as a warm, welcoming, feel-good person.
In addition to her passion within education and her philosophies that reflect those at Yorktown, Mrs. Robel also “Does What She Loves” by living in nature with her family. The Robels frequent Oak Point Nature Preserve when they are local, but they love to camp on the dunes with wild ponies during regular visits to Assateague Island National Park in Maryland. Mrs. Robel’s family even signed up as a foster family to “adopt” a wild horse to become involved in preserving the island’s wildlife.
Mrs. Robel’s enthusiasm in education and passion for doing what she loves spills into everything she touches. We are profoundly luck to have her as part of the Yorktown Education family.
