Student Highlight: Jack Partain
Yorktown Education attracts students whose diverse backgrounds, interests, and cultures create an environment where students challenge each other intellectually and grow in the process. Indeed, the backstories and accomplishments of our students provide an impressive insight into the school’s “Do What You Love” philosophy.
Yorktown Education Class of 2016 Graduate Jack Partain
Jack Partain Jr enrolled at Yorktown in 2011. Like many of his peers, Jack left public schools because he and his family felt the district he was attending was “just trying to get him through the system.” According to Jack, “when I first came to Yorktown I was a very different person. I was less composed, less mature”. Yorktown provided an “individual focus” that specifically addressed his needs in an atmosphere “where students and staff actually liked and respected one another.”
Jack was selected to give this year’s Commencement Speech titled “I didn’t get here playing video games” at the school’s Annual Formal Dinner. In Jack’s speech he describes his years at Yorktown as an “amazing” experience, “I’ve learned a lot. And I don’t mean just things like Newton’s laws. It’s been an introductory course to the way life works. Especially how college works.”
Working ahead in a curriculum designed for him, Jack graduated at the age of 16. He has been awarded a full-ride scholarship and stipend to his first- choice college, The University of Texas at Dallas, and will major in Arts and Technology.
Jack also was awarded the 2016 Yorktown Education Midge Award. As an award recipient, Jack received an undisclosed college scholarship from Yorktown Education.
We couldn’t be more proud of Jack. His story, among many others, is helping fulfill our vision of contributing to a peaceful, more prosperous world for the next generation.
