Are you interested in building on collaboration and community by sharing your home and lifestyle with an international student? The rewards are significant for your entire family. By embracing differences both locally and globally, host families enable students from around the world to share and learn the value of the American experience.
The Yorktown Education International Student Program (ISP) welcomes international students to be part of our dynamic student-centered educational model, while gaining the benefit of discovering how to “Do What They Love.”
If you’re wondering what your primary responsibilities would be as a host family for an international student, here are some essentials you would be expected to provide.
As a host family, you must provide an international student with a safe, supportive and loving home for the academic year, encouraging them to be an active participant in your family life.
Each international student must be provided with his/her own bed and an appropriate place to study, either in a room shared with a family member of the same sex and within four years of the student’s age, or in a room of their own.
All meals must be provided for your international student, including school lunch, as well as transportation to and from Yorktown Education campus.
Host families are expected to encourage the interaction of ideas and provide international students with exposure to the cultural and social environment of both the home and the community.
Overall, as a host family to an international student, you are expected to provide the love and understanding needed by a young person to help them have a successful academic year at Yorktown Education and in the USA.
